Important information to be observed before applying for OCI card 

OCI Applications are accepted only on Wednesdays between 09h:30m - 12h:00m with prior appointment through the link https://www.eoilisbon.gov.in/apt/index.php

Non-Portuguese applicants have to live in the jurisdiction of this Mission for at least one year before applying OCI Card.

All Foreign documents (Non-Portuguese Birth certificate, Marriage certificate, etc) are to be duly apostilled from the competent authorities
(concerned Embassy/concerned Ministry)

If the supporting documents submitted are not satisfactory, applicant will be asked to provide more documentary evidence.

It is an offence to knowingly furnish false information or to suppress material information when applying for OCI.

The grant of OCI card does not entitle the holder to visit Restricted/Protected areas without prior specific permission.

OCI card does not entitle the holder to undertake missionary, mountaineering or research work without prior permission.

With effect from 23rd January, 2019,Government of India has introduced mandatory bio-metrics for all OCI applicants . The applicants will have the option of giving biometrics at the application stage or at the Immigration Check Posts on arrival in India. Applicants are, however, advised to give biometrics at the application stage itself i.e. at the document verification stage. If for any reason the applicant is not able to give the biometrics at the application stage which shall be informed to the Indian Mission/Post concerned in writing, his/her biometrics shall be captured at the Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) on arrival in India. Biometrics of fingerprints of existing OCI cardholders shall be captured at the Immigration Check Posts (ICPs) during their entry/exit at the ICPs whenever they travel to/from India. Biometrics captured would be valid for next 5 years from the date of enrollment and applicants would not be required to be enrolled again within 5 years, if they have already enrolled their biometrics. Applicants above 70 years of age or below 12 years of age would be exempted from biometric capturing.

Affidavit stating that applicant never held Indian passport and that if the marriage is dissolved by divorce or death of the spouse, the OCI card should be returned to the Embassy of India, Lisbon. (Specimen)

Affidavit from the applicant stating as to how he/she/parents/grandparents left India explaining complete details and on what passport he/she/parents/grandparents traveled to Portugal.

IMPORTANT: At least two of the above documents are compulsory. Further, all the documents issued by the India authorities must be duly attested by the Home Department and apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi

The re-issuance of new OCI card will be applicable for following categories:
In case of issuance of new passport (once a new passport is issued after completing 20 years of age.)
In case of change of personal particulars viz. name, father's name, nationality etc.
In case of loss/damage of OCI registration certificate.

Change of particulares of OCI card (Update of new passport No, etc)

The OCI card holder can select the option OCI Miscellaneous Service and upload the latest photograph and requisite documents. These details shall be updated into the OCI system records and an acknowledgement shall be shared with OCI card holder on his/her registered email ID. 

In case issuance of new passport details (each time a new passport is issued up to 20 years of age and once after completing 50 years of age)

In case of change in address/occupation/contact details. 

The services under these categories are gratis in nature and the Embassy of India in Lisbon has no role in this regard.

Change of particulars of OCI card (Loss/Damage)

Application form duly filled in and signed wherever necessary. If the applicant is minor signature by both parents, in case a child cannot sign, his/her thumb impression may be provided

FAQ’s

Submission of documents. Where?
After the applicant submits the complete application online including documents, photograph and signature, the copies of the supporting documents have to be submitted to the Indian Mission/ Post concerned for prior verification. The Indian Missions / Posts will be responsible for verifying the supporting documents.
If there is any deficiency in the application/ uploaded documents/ photographs, the Indian Mission/ Post concerned shall inform the same to the applicant telephonically or by email.

Do I have to fill all columns when filling up the application online? 
Yes. It is mandatory that no column is left unanswered.

Are 'Empire of India' Passports issued by the British authorities in India prior to Indian Independence accepted as a proof of Indian Origin? 
No, if they state the National Status of the holder as British subject by birth. Yes, if they state the National Status of the holder as person of British Protectorate, originally a citizen of a place in India.

Is there an emergency service for OCI? 
No. If you are travelling in the near future and have an emergency, please apply for Visa/E-visa.

What is the processing time of application? 
Around 5-6 weeks. As shown above, applicants are required to check the status on MHA website. No separate intimation will be sent to the applicant about the status of their application.

How long will it take for my OCI card to be ready? 
No enquiry would be entertained before 5-6 weeks from date of submission of application. Thereafter, the OCI card is dispatched to the concerned address of the applicant.

Facing problems relating to access to online registration for fresh application or transfer through miscellaneous registration. What should I do?

The Embassy of India, Lisbon, is an end-user like any other applicant and cannot assist in this regard.
