A. Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz 2018-19

1. In pursuance of Prime Minister’s announcement, Ministry of External Affairs organized 1st edition of Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz for young overseas Indians in 2015-16. The second edition of 'Bharat Ko Janiye' quiz will be held in 2018-19.

2. The quiz is being conducted to motivate overseas Indian youth and foreign nationals to enhance their knowledge about India. Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz is open for three categories of participants – Person of Indian (PIO), Non-Resident Indian (NRI) & Foreign Nationals between 15 to 35 years. Topics of the Quiz include – Indian Art, Indian Democracy, Economy, Geography, Personalities in Music and Dance, Science & Technology, Languages & Literature, Education, Tradition of Indian Crafts, Indian Cinema, and Renowned Personalities.

3. The entire quiz will be organized in 4 rounds. The first round of quiz will be executed by the Mission abroad from 16 to 31 October 2018. The top three contenders/participants of the 1st round of Quiz from each category, who will be eligible for the second round, will be given Medals by the Missions. 

4. The second, third and fourth rounds will be executed by the Ministry in New Delhi. The second round would be conducted online. The third and fourth round (semi final and final round) would be organized onsite in New Delhi.

5. Top 10 global finalists in each category will be selected on the basis of marks secured in second round and they will be invited to participate in the third round (Semi final) and fourth round (Final round) in New Delhi. All participants, who are invited for onsite round would attend the workshop in New Delhi and participate in the Bharat Ko Janiye Yatra, a 15 day tour of India. After Yatra, final onsite round will be held in New Delhi and top 3 winners will be awarded Gold/Silver/Bronze medals.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2019

B. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, January 21-23, 2019 at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
The 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is being organised by Ministry of External Affairs in association with the State Government of Uttar Pradesh in January 2019. In reverence to the sentiments of the larger diaspora community to participate in Kumbh Snan and their desire to witness the Republic Day parade, the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas(PBD) Convention 2019 will be held from January 21-26, 2019 in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh).

The theme of the 15th PBD convention is : “Role of Indian Diaspora in building a New India”. 

Broadly, the PBD Convention 2019 will be held as per following tentative schedule:

C. Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA)
The Government of India has introduced self-nomination for Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA 2019). Indian communities/associations/ individuals are encouraged to nominate any individual or association for PBSA 2019.
Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) is conferred on a person of Indian origin and non-resident Indians or an organization/institution established and run by a PIO/NRI who has made significant contribution in any of the following fields:
  • . Better understanding abroad of India;
  • . Support to India’s causes and concerns in a tangible way
  • . Building closer links between India, the overseas Indian community and their country of residence;
  • . Social and humanitarian causes in India or abroad;
  • . Welfare of the local Indian community;
  • . Philanthropic and charitable work;
  • . Eminence in one’s field or outstanding work, which has enhanced India’s prestige in the country of residence; or
  • . Eminence in skills which has enhanced India’s prestige in that country (for non-professional workers).
