Advisory for Acceptance of Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) Applications Only by Post

This is to inform that the Embassy has decided to accept applications for Police Clearance Certificates (PCCs) only by post with effect from (w.e.f.) 01 February 2025.

The procedure for submitting PCC applications by post is as follows:

  1. Postal services will be available ONLY for PCC applications. No other applications (such as passport renewal, renunciation, attestations, etc.) will be accepted by post.

  2. Procedure for sending PCC applications by post:

(The amount includes PCC service fees, ICWF fees, postal charges, and Stripe payment gateway charges.)

  • After successful submission of the application form and payment:

    (i) the applicant will receive an email containing the Unique Reference Number (URN), and

    (ii) a payment confirmation email from the Stripe payment gateway.

  • Applicants must write the URN number received in the confirmation email on the top left/right corner of the envelope containing the PCC application and accompanying documents. Envelopes sent without mentioning the URN number will not be accepted or processed.

Documents required for PCC application by post:

  1. Duly filled-in PCC application form;

  2. Original certified copy of the first and last pages of the passport, certified exclusively by CTT and also self-attested by the applicant;

  3. Copy of proof of residence in Portugal (Junta/NIF/NISS) or copy of a valid Portuguese residence permit;

  4. Printout of the Stripe payment gateway receipt of EUR 42.

Important Notes:

  • Please note that attestation/certification of passport copies must be carried out exclusively by CTT and not by any other agents, advocates, or notaries. The original certified copy must be sent along with the application and should also be self-attested.

  • Incomplete applications will be rejected and will not be returned.

  • The Embassy shall not be responsible for any loss of documents/passports by CTT or any courier service during transit.

  • Applicants are responsible for providing the correct postal address.

  • The PCC and accompanying documents, once processed, will be sent back to the applicant by post only. No in-person collection at the Embassy will be permitted.

  • The normal processing time for issuance of PCC is at least 45 working days. Applicants may track the status of their applications through the ARN number (mentioned below the barcode on the application form) using the same PSP portal:

  • No enquiries by email or phone regarding application status will be entertained before completion of the normal processing period mentioned above.

  • Any changes in the above procedure, if applicable, will be notified separately on the Embassy website.
