The celebration of 68th Independence Day of India at the Embassy Residence in Lisbon

The 68th Independence Day of India was celebrated today at the Embassy Residencein Lisbon. About 130 Indian citizens, people of Indian origin and Portuguese friends of India attended the event. The Ambassador of India to Portugal, Dr.JitendraNathMisra, unfurled the Indian National Flag. Following the National Anthem, the Ambassador read out the President of India´s Address to the Nation and then briefly addressed the gathering.In his remarks, the ambassador invited the participation of the Indian community in the effort to revitalize India-Portugal bilateral relations, especially in the field of business. The celebrations were marked by an inspiring Yoga performance presented by the Portuguese Yoga Confederation, which has done stellar work in promoting Yoga in Portugal and other places around the world. This was the first time ever Yoga was performed during the celebration of a national day in Lisbon. The second performance of Kathak, by the Portuguese students of Smt. LajjaSambhavnath, was presented with equal grace and poise and added to the ambience of Indian tradition and culture created by Yoga. The artists were thereupon felicitated by the Ambassador and his wife, Prof.Dr. Paulo Alberto, Director of the Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon and the heads of the Indian Community Organisations in Portugal and books were presented to them as a token of our appreciation, love and respect.
