Advisory for Indian students in the context of Coronavirus pandemic 

FAQs on Covid-19      |      BOI Circular on visa restriction related to Covid -19 as on 18March

Owing to the growing cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the recent travel restrictions, the Embassy of India in Lisbon has the following advisory for Indian students who are residing in Portugal.

 

Please read the advisory carefully and note that this is based on information available as of 18 March 2020. Please keep visiting the Embassy website and its social media accounts mentioned at the bottom for any other further updates in this rapidly evolving situation. It is advised to stay calm and not panic in this lock-down situation. Keep following your University/College guidelines and advisories issued by Government of Portugal from time to time. Restrict  non essential travel  and maintain distance at public places and follow basic hygienic practices to stay safe during the epidemic.

 

  1.   i)  Travel advisory from Government of India – All passengers coming from European Union (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden), European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland), Turkey and United Kingdom have been prohibited from entering India from any of the Land/Air/Seaport ICPs. This restriction shall come into effect from 1200 hrs GMT on March 18, 2020 at the port of first departure, and shall remain till March 31, 2020 and is a temporary measure.

   

  1.    ii)Compulsory quarantine for a minimum period of 14 days for passengers coming from/transiting through UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait. This will come into effect from 1200 GMT on 18th March 2020 at the port of first departure.

 

     iii)Travel of passengers from Afghanistan, Philippines, Malaysia to India is prohibited with immediate effect. No flight shall take off from these countries to India after 1500 hours Indian Standard Time (IST) from 17th March 2020. The airline shall enforce this at the port of initial departure

 

  1. iv)  Travel advisory from Government of Portugal –The Portuguese Government has decided to suspend all flights to/from non-EU countries as of 00.00 (midnight) on 19 March.  For Portugal, there are however two exceptions: Flights to non-EU countries with large Portuguese communities (specifically Canada, the US, Venezuela and South Africa); and air connections with Portuguese-speaking countries. With regard to Brazil, only the routes Lisbon-Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon-São Paulo will be operational. Air links to the US and Cape Verde will not be active, since both countries have alreadyshut down travel to/from the EU.The new restrictions are to remain in place for the next 30 days, with a new evaluation of the situation due before the expiration of this time frame.

    

  1.  v)  IMPORTANT: As per SEF (Foreigners and Borders Service) Portugal, VISA validity has been extended to June 30 given the COVID situation to facilitate foreign Nationals in view of the lock down.Therefore right now it is advised to stay put at your home/hostel until the situation improves.
