Indian Maritime University

The Indian Maritime University (IMU) in Chennai, India, is a premier maritime university under the aegis of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India. The charter of IMU is to promote and achieve excellence in areas of maritime studies, training, research and extension with focus on emerging areas like Oceanography, Maritime History, Maritime Laws, Maritime Security, Search and Rescue, Transportation of Dangerous Cargo, Environmental Studies and other related fields.  

The IMU has four schools:

a) School of Maritime Engineering and Technology

b) School of Nautical Studies

c) School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering

d) School of Maritime Management

The following programmes are offered at the six IMU campuses, which are spread across India (Chennai, Kolkata, Visakhapatnam, Kochi and two at Mumbai):
Undergraduate Programmes

1. Bachelor of Technology (Marine Engineering)

2. Bachelor of Science (Nautical Science)

3. Diploma in Nautical Science leading to Bachelor of Science (Applied Nautical Science)

4. Bachelor of Technology (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering)

5. Bachelor Business Administration (Logistics, Retailing and E-Commerce)

6. Apprenticeship Embedded Bachelor Business Administration (Maritime Logistics)

Postgraduate Programmes

1. Master of Technology (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering)

2. Master of Technology (Dredging and Harbour Engineering)

3. Master of Technology (Marine Technology)

4. Postgraduate Diploma in Marine Engineering

5. Master of Business Administration (Port and Shipping Management)

6. Master of Business Administration (International Transportation and Logistics Management)

Research Programmes

1. PhD

2. MS (by Research)

Admissions to students for foreign nationals:

The IMU offers admissions to Foreign Nationals / Persons of Indian Origin / Non-resident Indians / Overseas Citizens of India to Undergraduate / Postgraduate programmes under the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
