Celebrating 150 years of the Mahatma: Tree Plantation Event at the University of Coimbra (05.06.2019)

On 05 June, the Embassy of India, in collaboration with the University of Coimbra, organized a tree plantation event at the Botanical Gardens of the University. On this occasion, Ambassador of India to Portugal H.E. Mrs. K. Nandini Singla spoke about Mahatma Gandhi's message on sustainability, and its relevance, especially in the context of #climatechange.
The dignitaries from the University at the event included Professor Dr. Delfim Leão, Vice-Rector; Professor Dr. Domingos Xavier Viegas, an Indian-origin Portuguese forest fire expert; and Dra. Carine Azevedo from the Botanical Garden. 
On this occasion, the Embassy also gifted several books on Indian culture, literature, history, and Gandhi (including his autobiography, and a Special edition of Gandhi comics in Portuguese) to the University library as part of the initiative of creating 'Bharat: Ek Parichay – Sharing knowledge with the world' corners at prestigious universities and educational institutions abroad. 

The event was attended by Indian students and researchers of the University, diaspora members and Portuguese friends.
