First ever public Celebration of Ganesh Utsav in Lisbon

Embassy of India @IndiainPortugal, in association with Marathi Mandal Portugal @marathimandalportugal_mmp, celebrated the first-ever Ganesh Utsav in Portugal — a historic occasion for the Indian community in the country.

The celebration began with prayers and Aarti, in which the Ambassador of India to Portugal also participated. On the occasion, he spoke about the origins of Ganesh Utsav as a public celebration during the pre-Independence period, and its evolution into a pan-India festival that brings communities together in devotion and unity.The festivities included the cultural performances, dance, music, Visarjan ceremony and moments of shared joy. The programme concluded with Mahaprasad, symbolising togetherness and community bonding.This first Ganesh Utsav in Portugal not only strengthened the cultural connect of the diaspora but also offered Portuguese friends a glimpse of India’s rich traditions and spirit of unity in diversity.
