Embassy of India Celebrates Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti with Mesmerising Performance of Chandalika

The Embassy of India, in association with the Hindu Community of Portugal (CHP), celebrated 25th Boishakh — the 165th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore — with a captivating performance of his dance drama Chandalika on 10th May 2026.

The event featured sterling performances by the Jhankar Dance Group, led by the talented Rumki Banerjee, bringing Tagore's timeless work to life for audiences in Portugal.

Adding a special historical touch to the occasion, the Embassy was delighted to share a copy of a letter dated November 6, 1927, written by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore to Portugal — a cherished testament to his enduring connection with the country.

The event was a celebration of India's rich cultural heritage and the deep bonds of friendship between India and Portugal.
