Ambassador Shri P. R. Kundal visited the University of Aveiro on 22 December 2025, where he met Prof. Artur Silva, Vice-Rector of the University, along with members of the university leadership and faculty.

During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on strengthening India–Portugal cooperation in higher education, with particular emphasis on academic partnerships, student and faculty mobility, joint research initiatives, and innovation-led collaboration. The University of Aveiro’s growing engagement with Indian institutions and scholars was noted with appreciation.

As part of the visit, the Ambassador interacted with Indian students and researchers currently studying and working at the University. With over 60 Indian nationals contributing across diverse academic and research fields, the interaction highlighted the increasing presence and positive role of the Indian academic community in Portugal’s higher education ecosystem. The Ambassador commended their contributions and encouraged them to continue serving as bridges between the two countries.

The visit assumes special significance as India and Portugal mark 50 years of diplomatic relations, a milestone that underscores the enduring friendship and expanding partnership between the two countries. Educational and academic cooperation has emerged as a key pillar of bilateral ties, fostering strong people-to-people connections and long-term collaboration.

India remains committed to deepening educational engagement with Portugal through institutional linkages, research collaboration, and exchange programmes, including partnerships involving leading Indian universities such as Nalanda University. These initiatives contribute meaningfully to shared goals in education, innovation, and global knowledge exchange.
