International Day of Yoga 2026 Celebrations across Portugal

The Embassy of India in Portugal successfully organised the 12th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2026, under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing." A series of vibrant events were held across Portugal, bringing together the Indian diaspora, Portuguese yoga enthusiasts, local communities, and institutions in a shared celebration of physical wellness, mental harmony, and holistic well-being.

Key Events:

Lisbon — The main celebration was held at the historic Museu de Lisboa – Palácio Pimenta (Pimenta Palace), featuring engaging yoga sessions with enthusiastic community participation. Special curtain-raiser sessions were also organised, including a dedicated session for officer trainees of the Higher Institute of Police Sciences and Internal Security, in collaboration with the Portuguese Yoga Federation.

Évora — A sunrise yoga session was conducted at the iconic Templo Romano de Évora (Roman Temple) at 7:30 AM, organised in association with the Municipality of Évora — a truly memorable setting blending ancient heritage with timeless wellness.

Porto (Matosinhos) — An event at Parque da Cidade do Porto, organised in collaboration with Natixis and Zariya Indian Dance Academy, drew over 100 participants and featured yoga and meditation sessions, dance workshops, and vibrant cultural performances.

Cascais — A chair yoga and meditation session was held at the Centro de Interpretação Ambiental da Pedra do Sal (São Pedro do Estoril), in collaboration with Heartfulness Portugal and the Municipality of Cascais.

Montemor-o-Novo — A special yoga session dedicated to senior citizens was held at the Museu Convento São Domingos, organised in association with Casa da Índia, the Municipality of Montemor-o-Novo, and Monte de Magia — a meaningful reflection of this year's theme of Yoga for Healthy Ageing.
